Adding TBN to your LinkedIn profile

At the TBN Partners Day 2012 we heard from Harrison & Stuart about some quick wins that Members and Partners of TBN can do to increase the effectiveness and impact of their social media profiles. Updating your LinkedIn profile is one of them. Below you’ll find out how to add TBN to your LinkedIn profile, meaning everyone who views your profile also gets to find out about TBN and what you are doing to give the poor a hand up out of poverty.

All we’re going to do is add Transformational Business Network to your experience/position section of LinkedIn – that’s the place you’d also put your day job – and add “Member” or “Partner” as the position.

You can either do this on LinkedIn.com or on the LinkedIn mobile app (go to app instructions ↓).

Using LinkedIn.com

  1. First, go to the LinkedIn homepage, hover over “Profile” and click “Edit profile”.
  2. Next, scroll down until you find the “Experience” section and click “+ Add a position”
  3. You’re now ready to add a position to your profile, making TBN as a company you’re associated with. In the company name field start typing “Transformational Business Network”. You should see suggested companies appearing as you type. Click on Transformational Business Network when you see it.
  4. Once you’ve picked TBN from the list of companies you need to fill out the rest of your details. If you’re a TBN Member then add that in the “Title” field; if you’re a Partner add that. If you’re current involved with TBN then check the box labelled “I currently work here” (just called “Current job” on the mobile app). You’ll also need to add a start date. This doesn’t need to be too accurate – just choose the approximate year that you started getting involved. Finally, add a description of what you do in TBN, how you’re using your company, skills and/or experience to alleviate poverty.

And that’s it. Now, every time someone views your LinkedIn profile, they will be able to see that you’re involved with TBN and from there it’s only a few clicks to get to the TBN website. This is an easy, passive way to increase the visibility of the role of enterprise in the fight against poverty, and profiles your involvement in it.

If you’ve got any questions or suggestions for other things the Network can be doing with social media please get in touch.

Using the mobile app

  1. Open the LinkedIn app on your phone or tablet and click the LinkedIn logo in the top left.
  2. Now click on the ‘You’ tab
  3. You’ll now be looking at your profile. Click ‘Edit’
  4. In the ‘Edit Profile’ screen scroll down until you see the Experience section. Click ‘Add a new job’
  5. You’ll now be asked to fill out the Experience details. In the Company field start typing “Transformational Business Network”. You should see suggested companies appearing as you type. Tap on Transformational Business Network when you see it and then tap ‘Done’.
  6. Now fill in the Title field. Choose “Member” or “Partner” depending on your level of Partnership with us.
  7. Finally, fill out the start date. Don’t worry if you can’t remember exactly when you joined TBN — an approximate date will do.
  8. If you want to you can fill out more details. Add a description of what you do in TBN, how you’re using your company, skills and/or experience to alleviate poverty. This will help others in the Network know about your passions and expertise.
  9. When you’re happy with what you’ve written just tap ‘Save’
  10. Now your profile will reflect your involvement with TBN and will help others to explore the Network
