Jane Osmond, Chair of Kairos WWT (Women Working Together) writes to tell us about a number of female vacancies on their Trustees board. She says:
“We would welcome applications from female employees of your organisation with experience in the following areas:
- Marketing/ PR
- Law (including employment law/HR experience)
Kairos WWT is a charity based in the Hillfields area of Coventry, and has been supporting women caught up in street prostitution in the area since April 1999. The Hillfields area is known as Coventry’s ‘red light district’ and, according to the Hillfields Health Development Project (2010), is one of the most deprived areas of the city due to high unemployment, low income and educational under‐achievement.
The women who attend Kairos WWT are classed as a ‘hard to reach’ group facing many complex barriers in accessing mainstream services (including health care, housing, access to training etc), not least due to the stigma attached to prostitution and Class A drug use.
We aim to improve the health and lives of women at risk of, involved in, and those exiting prostitution in Coventry, to reduce the number of women working on the streets and to reduce the isolation suffered by women coming away from life-‐controlling issues.
Working as a Trustee enables use of professional skills to support Kairos WWT’s important work, including:
- Ensuring that we comply with our governing document and charity law
- Contributing to the board of trustees’, giving firm strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance.
- Safeguarding our good name and values
- Ensuring effective and efficient administration and financial stability
Trustees are expected to attend monthly meetings in Coventry, and also be available by email in between meetings to discuss the day-to‐day workings of the charity, as and when the need arises.
