Exiting a social venture

How can social entrepreneurs exit a social enterprise without ‘selling out’. How can the mission of the business be protected?

This article from the Social Enterprise Network (Guardian.co.uk) talks about potential pitfalls when exiting a social venture and looks at the ‘social license’ solution used by the White Dog Cafe chain in the US.

At the Members’ Day Conference, 2010, Chris Egitto spoke about the social entreprise Hagar, a contract catering business, and touched on the difficulty in exiting social ventures and the low rate at which entrepreneurs succeed in doing so. He shared some of the lessons learned in the sale of Hagar and gave some pointers for doing it yourself. View Chris’ presentation and the Hagar project to learn more.
